About Me
Hi folks,
Let me introduce myself; I am a total fanatic, obsessive, super fan of anything horror related, would that be films, books, games, or even better, a real-life experience. I’ve seen great movies, good movies and to be honest, even movies that should’ve never been produced. I would say I’m a quite nerdy about the subject. This year I’ve finally managed to get back into scripting and making short movies. As of today I’m fiddling with sandboxes (digital ofc^^) to create short scary stories, aiming for the suspense and psychedelic horror and the
unexpected thrill. Since I don’t have real actors in my movies, I’m using sound and light as my elements of creeps.
So, what was it that created this obsession you might wonder, I’ve asked myself that question and found the answer in my life story. I was born and raised in the northern Sweden. When I was a kid, wolves were common around us, since, when I say the north, I mean Samiland. There was a lot of reindeer, hence a lot of wolves. One late evening, I was at the age of six, I had a close encounter with a wolf in a closed in environment, in a barn to be precise. I have very few memories of what happened after that or for how long I was in there, but after that came my night terrors, the fear of the dark and… a deep thirst for knowledge about the supernatural, since I was convinced that the meeting had a deeper meaning. Of course, that was some years later, but that was the start of my fascination for the supernatural and the search for answers.
At the age of ten I was reading everything I could get my hands on, fiction, “true stories” or other “facts” of the area. I was reading novels by authors like Poe, Masterton, Russel and Farris. I was struggling to read H.P. Lovecraft which was hard enough given his vivid explanations of places and entities, take into the fact that his old English didn’t make it easier for a Swedish kid. Apart from reading I was glued to the television as soon as the classics like Wolfman, The Thing, The Leopard Man, Dracula.. you get the point, everything or anything of the horror genre! When I reached teenage I started filming a lot, back then super8 was the thing, expensive as he.. but also, super fun! I started writing shorter amateur scripts, made more movies in which I had convinced (read forced) my friends to participate. I did make a thirty-minute-long psychedelic horror movie at age 19 with actors from a theatre school. The movie was a nominee for Nordic amateur movie makers. The movie came third, they said it was very good but a bit confusing. It was called “Trapped in a nightmare” so ofc. it was supposed to be confusing ^^
After that life hit, work, family and so forth. The time for my hobbies had to step aside but my fascination for horror never did. I was, and still do, try to see every horror movie or read as many books as possible. My favorites are still the subtle, psychological stories where you’re left to figure out the answer for yourself, because there is nothing more scary then our own minds. Like H.P Lovecraft once said, ‘The oldest and strongest emotion of humanity is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.’
I can also add that there aren’t many haunted places in Scandinavia I haven’t visited. Even when I lived in the US I had the opportunity to make some interesting visits to haunted homes and hotels.
Warmest Regards, Eagal
